Work for women and young people in Watamu

A cleaner Watamu should also be a fairer one. KEWASTE puts women and young people at the centre of the project.

The KEWASTE team sorting recyclables together

KEWASTE gives priority to hiring, training and promoting women and young people in every part of the work: collection, recycling, recovery, the office and community work.

Working with local women's groups and youth organisations, we want to create lasting jobs while looking after Watamu's environment.

Hiring and training

Women and young people come first when we hire, with training for every role: on the vehicles, at the sorting centre and in the office.

Room to grow

Clear steps up, from collection crew to team lead, from the office to operations, as the project grows.

Local partners

Local women's groups and youth organisations, and Registree, whose recovery plant creates new jobs next to ours.
